For this month’s ‘Quote of the Month,’ I’ve selected one that enhances my most recent blog post. The one titled “What Is My Website’s Achilles’ Heel?, Part II.”
This quotation is from C. Anthony (Tony) Federer, a retired USDA Forest Service scientist. I first came across this quite a few years ago. Doing a Ctrl F search of Tony Federer’s book, Ecoshift: The Movement That Is Transforming the Relation of Humanity to Earth (there’s a link on his website’s Ecoshift.net homepage), I see it’s not from that. In fact, I also did a search on Google and discovered my website is the only place it still appears.
But I know the quote is from him. I emailed him years ago just to confirm it was of his origin and he confirmed that. I just can’t recall where I originally saw it.
It’s on my ‘Quotations’ page. On my ‘Underlying Causes’ page. And now, here it is, as my featured June 2026, ‘Quote of the Month’:
“If you believe that human beings should dominate and control the earth and that plants, animals, and minerals are resources for human use, you have an anthropocentric world view. If you believe that humans are but one component of an incredibly complex earth and that humans must learn to live within a stable, sustainable, self-renewing ecosphere, you have an ecocentric world view.” — C. Anthony (Tony) Federer, USDA Forest Service scientist (retired) ecoshift.net
I haven’t read Federer’s book. But someday, I would like to. In the meantime, feel free to email me and share your thoughts if you’ve read it.
