Original, Trailblazing Solutions, for the Radical Change We Desperately Need

 

For the past few months, I’ve been focused on organizing drawers and drawers of notes. One thick stack I went through weeks ago consists of ideas for how to word my ads for publicizing my website and seeking funding. Since I feel so comfortable with the ad wording I’m currently using — here it is:

DO YOU CARE ABOUT SAVING THE PLANET?  Here’s your golden opportunity to prove it.  www.ecoideaman.com

— theoretically, I should be able to toss a lot of that stuff. And I did. But I also kept a lot. Here, below, I’ll share with you some of the ones I’ve kept. Feel free to let me know what you think. I’ll admit, over the years, some of the ad wordings I’ve used were not very good. In my defense, my main objective was simply to keep it short (shorter, means cheaper), and let my website do the talking.

Here are some of the potential ad wordings I’ve kept (with some commentary included) — perhaps in the future I might switch to using one of these:

I am seeking funding because I believe my ideas, in aggregate, offer us the best hope for saving the planet.  www.ecoideaman.com

These next three use Christopher Columbus to help make my point that accomplishing something very big sometimes requires funding. I also like the idea of using this particular historical reference in the sense that whereas Columbus discovered a “New World,” we need to discover a “New Way” of living on this planet. One that is compatible with ensuring future generations get to enjoy it as much as we. However, using one of these requires taking into consideration it might appear insensitive and in poor taste to use ads referencing a man whose mistreatment of Indigenous Americans was so egregious it necessitated his being brought back to Spain in chains to stand trial. These are those ad wordings referencing Columbus:

What could Columbus have accomplished without funding? I’m in the same boat.  www.ecoideaman.com

Columbus needed funding.  /  Just as I do too.  /  My goal is Saving the Planet.  /  One backer, minimally, will do.  /  www.ecoideaman.com

In terms of cost, the shorter the ad, the better. But naturally, if I could afford it, I’d love to run longer ads. For example, perhaps something like this:

Global warming, rising seas, intensifying storms, desertification, deforestation, aquifer depletion, mass extinction, pervasive pollution, environmental degradation, coral bleaching, rampant overdevelopment, lack of reverence for the natural world, obsessive focus on perpetual economic growth, paradigm paralysis, social unrest, rising militarism, anthropocentric myopia, three million people being added to the planet every two weeks, we’re sinking in quicksand, in a denialist death spiral, on a collision course trajectory, we need deep systemic holistic change on a scale the likes of which few talk about and few can imagine.
