August 2026, ‘Quote of the Month’

Today’s ‘quote of the month’ blog post will be a short one. I saw this quotation once engraved on a plaque at a location that was designated a “Healing Path.” Here is the quotation:

“In today’s rush we all think too much, seek too much, want too much, and forget abut the joy of just Being.” — Eckhart Tolle

It’s a beautiful sentiment. I believe this would be a far more beautiful world if more people just slowed down, wanted less, consumed less, were appreciative of all they have, respected the Earth, cared about future generations, and tuned into the joy of just being. Just being.

For example, think of all we have to be grateful for. Contemplate the deep mysteries of the universe. Why is it that there even is a universe? Why isn’t all of the known universe, and beyond, just a vacuum (infinite nothingness)? Where did the atoms that make up our universe come from? How did life originate on a planet devoid of life? These are great mysteries. And would deservedly be so even in a universe without consciousness. But the mere fact our minds are capable of contemplating such mysteries is in itself a great mystery. In the words of the philosopher Colin McGinn:  “How did evolution convert the water of biological tissue into the wine of consciousness?” It’s a mystery.
