If you care about saving the planet, I’m here! I have the best ideas for how to make that happen. I just need a relatively small amount of funding. So I can quit my job and focus my time and attention on presenting my ideas and moving them forward. None of the (“52p52”) ideas that I’m eager to present and share with you have been talked about before — so far as I know — either the whole idea itself is completely unique, or at least one key aspect of it is. There’s quality, and quantity. And quite a degree of variety too. They truly run the gamut. But all are aimed at saving the planet. That’s been my central focus, my entire life.
As I initially explained when I first put up this website — a little over a dozen years ago — something along the lines of a MacArthur Fellowship Grant would be perfect. But eventually (due to the astounding lack of interest, as evidenced by my inbox), I reduced that suggested amount down to $100,000. That reduced amount would give me far less to work with, obviously — and at a time when ‘saving the planet’ grows ever increasingly more out of reach — but it would still leave enough (after taxes) to enable me to be able to quit my job, so as to give ‘saving the planet’ my full, undivided attention. That’s vitally important, because I don’t want to merely just present my ideas. I want to do so in such a way that they will have the best opportunity to make a real difference. I don’t want to just get my ideas down, in written form, and presented, I want them actually acted upon!
Finding one sole backer would be ideal. That’s been my goal. But crowdfunding might be a viable alternative worth considering.
Here’s one example of how something like this might work: If 500 people (that’s just 10 people, on average, in each of our 50 states) gave me $88.88, that would enable me to be able to quit my job, and then immediately begin the work of getting my ideas out there. Plus, if those same individuals then also pledged to give an additional $8.88 per month (for 12 months), that would provide funding for up to one additional year. (I anticipate it would take up to two full years to get all of my ideas presented in blog format.)
Again, that’s based on 500 people participating. If 5,000 jumped onboard, then — using that same formula outlined above — that would lower the amount to $8.88 (one-time, non-refundable), plus a monthly pledge of .88 cents (for one year).
That’s just one formula I happened to jot down one day. Using “round” numbers.
The point is, you can clearly see how doable this becomes once enough people express interest. Just 10 people per state (on average). And less than $200 per person.
It is with this concept in mind that I added to my Contact page mention of the possibility of traveling to NYC (on a periodic basis), to see if I could drum up support for that type of approach.
