Shorts, 2025

I did it again. I’m creating another new “blog within a blog” feature. This one, though, rather than being seasonal (quarterly), will start anew annually. Simply return here, periodically, to discover whether there’s anything new posted — it’s that simple! I’m calling this “Shorts,” as I plan to use it for sharing brief excerpts — probably, just a sentence or two — from things I’ve read recently, or in the past. Unlike with the Seasonal blog-within-a-blog, with this new “Shorts,” I anticipate posting sans commentary.

(1)   (Wednesday, March 12, 2025)   “There are quotes from people like Arthur C. Clarke and Gandhi saying that when people come up with new ideas they’re called ‘nuts.’ Then everybody starts believing in the idea and nobody can remember a time when it seemed strange.”

(“This Man Is Not a Cyborg. Yet.” New York Times, June 2, 2013. Times journalist David Segal is quoting Dmitry Itskov.)

(2)   (Wednesday, March 12, 2025)   “Nearly every country on Earth has dirtier air than doctors recommend breathing, a new report has found.”

(Only seven countries worldwide meet WHO dirty air guidelines, study shows,” TheGuardian.com/us, March 3, 11, 2025)
